Pathiramanal Island, whose name means sands of the night, is a small uninhabited island in Vembanad Lake reached only by boat from Kumarakom or nearby jetties. Thick vegetation and quiet shores make it a favourite birdwatching and picnic stop on backwater day trips. There is little commercial development, so carry water and expect a simple nature visit. Combine it with a morning sanctuary stop for a full lakeside day.
