Bijli Mahadev is a hilltop Shiva temple above the Kullu Valley, named for the lightning said to strike its tall wooden staff. The shrine sits at roughly 2,460 m and is reached by a steep forest trek of about 2 to 3 hours from the valley trailhead near Mathi or Chansari, after a road transfer from Kullu town. Clear days reward walkers with wide views over the Beas and surrounding ridges. A passenger ropeway from the Mohal/Pirdi side has been proposed but is not currently operating, so plan for the trek and check local trail conditions, especially after rain or snow. Carry water, wear sturdy shoes, and start early to avoid afternoon cloud.
