Kappad Beach

Rocky, quiet beach north of Kozhikode, associated with Vasco da Gama's landing in 1498.

Kappad Beach lies about 16 km north of Kozhikode city and is associated with the landing of the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama in May 1498. A small stone memorial on the shore marks the event. The beach is a mix of sand and rocks, with a quieter feel than the city beach, and is a good spot for an evening walk and sunset. The sea can be rough, especially in the monsoon, so take care before going into the water.
