Once known as Dhakuria Lake, Rabindra Sarobar was created in the 1920s when marshland in South Kolkata was dug out to form an artificial lake. It was later renamed after Rabindranath Tagore and is officially recognised as Kolkata's national lake. The park around the water draws joggers, walkers, and families through the day, with boating available on parts of the lake. Since it sits well inside South Kolkata's residential belt, it offers a calmer, more local experience compared to the city's more tourist-heavy landmarks.
