Built in 1926 by a merchant family originally from Kutch in Gujarat, Nakhoda Mosque is the largest mosque in Kolkata and one of the city's most recognisable religious buildings. Its Indo-Saracenic style mixes Mughal-influenced arches and domes into a structure that stands out even among Kolkata's many old buildings. The mosque sits in the busy Chitpur and Burra Bazar area, so it fits naturally into the same walking route as the flower market and the older shopping lanes nearby. It fills a real gap on this list, since no Islamic site had been included so far despite the mosque's scale and standing in the city.
