Marble Palace

Built in 1835 by Raja Rajendra Mullick, a wealthy Bengali merchant, Marble Palace is one of the best preserved old mansions left in Kolkata. The name comes from the marble used throughout the floors and walls, and the house is filled with statues, chandeliers, and paintings the family collected over generations. It still belongs to the Mullick family today, which gives it a lived in feel that's different from a typical museum. Since the house sits close to Jorasanko, both can be covered together on a North Kolkata heritage walk, though visitors usually need a free pass arranged in advance to go inside.
