Shalini Palace stands at the northern edge of Rankala Lake and is one of Kolhapur's most distinctive heritage buildings, named after Shrimant Shalini Raje of the Kolhapur royal family. The early 20th-century palace combines Indo-European architectural styles with a garden that descends to the lakefront. Now operating as a heritage hotel, the palace and its gardens are a landmark of the Rankala Lake promenade and form an essential part of the city's visual identity. The building's lakeside setting makes it one of the most photographed structures in Kolhapur.
