Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary

Maharashtra's first wildlife sanctuary, 45 km from Kolhapur, protecting Indian bison and elephants in dense Western Ghats forest.

Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary, Maharashtra's first wildlife sanctuary, covers 351 sq km of dense Western Ghats forest in the Sahyadri hills, 45 km from Kolhapur. Known as the Bison Sanctuary, it harbours the Indian gaur (bison), elephant, leopard, sambar, barking deer, giant squirrel and a rich birdlife. The Radhanagari Dam on the Bhogavati River provides a scenic backdrop. The sanctuary is best visited between October and May and access to core areas requires a permit. The dense green landscape of the Western Ghats makes this one of Maharashtra's most rewarding wildlife experiences.
