Mary Help of Christians Cathedral

One of the largest cathedrals in northeast India, a striking landmark on Aradura Hill that reflects the deep Catholic heritage of the Naga people.

The Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians is the seat of the Diocese of Kohima and one of the most prominent landmarks of the city. Situated on Aradura Hill, the cathedral is visible from much of Kohima and its elevated position offers sweeping views of the town and surrounding hills. Christianity came to Nagaland through American Baptist missionaries in the 19th century and today the state is one of the most Christian regions in India. The Catholic mission began in Kohima in 1948 and grew rapidly. The cathedral is known for its impressive architecture, its peaceful courtyard, and the charitable and educational work carried out by the diocese. Sunday services draw large congregations from across the district.
