Azhikode Beach, also called Munakkal Beach, stretches for several kilometres along the Arabian Sea about eight kilometres from Kodungallur and ranks among the largest beaches in Thrissur district. The adjoining Azhikode Lighthouse, a black and white tower built in 1982, still guides ships toward the mouth of the Periyar river and includes a differential GPS station for maritime navigation. The beach stays uncrowded compared to Kerala's better known coastal stops, making it a good choice for a quiet evening walk.
