Kumarakom

Nestled on the banks of Vembanad Lake about 70 kilometres from Kochi, Kumarakom is Kerala's most celebrated backwater retreat. A network of canals, paddy fields, and coconut groves surrounds a cluster of luxury resorts and homestays that offer houseboat cruises, kayaking, and birdwatching at the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. Often visited as a day trip or overnight extension from Kochi, it represents the quieter, more intimate side of Kerala's backwater experience away from the busier Alleppey circuit.
