Bhimashankar temple

A Jyotirlinga nestled in the Sahyadri hills, also the source of the river Bhima.

Bhimashankar Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, nestled in the Sahyadri hills of Maharashtra at an altitude of about 3,250 feet. Surrounded by dense forests that form part of the Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary, the temple is also the origin of the Bhima River. The temple's architecture follows the Nagara style and is believed to have been built in the 13th century, with additions by Nana Phadnavis in the 18th century. The forest setting, wildlife, and spiritual significance make it a unique destination combining pilgrimage with nature.
