Panna National Park near Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh is a tiger reserve of rocky plateaus, gorges and waterfalls, with the Ken River running through it. Tigers had disappeared from Panna by 2009, and a reintroduction programme brought them back, making the park a well known conservation success. Leopards, sloth bears, vultures, gharials in the Ken and a rich bird life are also found here.
Safari essentials: jeep safaris run in morning and afternoon shifts, and boat rides on the Ken River are a feature of the park. The Madhya Pradesh tiger reserves reopened their core zones on 1 October 2026 after the monsoon break. Book permits on the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department portal, forest.mponline.gov.in.
