A compact 10th-11th century Vishnu temple in Khajuraho's Eastern Group, the Javari Temple is admired for its elegant proportions and finely worked exterior carvings. Small in scale but high in quality, its shikhara rises gracefully above the surrounding village rooftops. Carvings of Navagrahas, Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma flank the entrance to the sanctum. Often bypassed by visitors focusing on the Western Group, it rewards those who make the short detour with some of the finest Chandela sculpture in a peaceful setting.
