Devi Jagdamba Temple

Devi Jagdamba Temple

An early 11th-century temple in the Western Group, now dedicated to the Goddess of the Universe with carvings comparable to Kandariya Mahadev.

Originally built as a Vishnu temple in the early 11th century, the Devi Jagdamba Temple now enshrines the Goddess of the Universe and stands within Khajuraho's main Western Group enclosure. Three horizontal bands of carvings wrap its exterior, including erotic mithuna figures, apsaras, and scenes of divine life comparable in quality to the nearby Kandariya Mahadev. The sanctum houses a compelling sculpture of the goddess. Often overlooked amid its famous neighbours, Jagdamba merits close attention in its own right.
