Chitragupta Temple in Khajuraho is the only temple in India dedicated to Chitragupta, the god of karma who maintains records of every soul's deeds and determines their fate after death. Built in the early 11th century by the Chandela kings, the temple faces east and is noted for its fine carvings depicting the sun god Surya riding a chariot, erotic sculptures, and hunting scenes. Part of the Western Group of Khajuraho temples, it stands as a rare and important monument to a deity seldom worshipped independently in other parts of India.
