Brahma Temple

A 10th-century Vishnu temple on Khajur Sagar lake, one of Khajuraho's older and simpler temples with unadorned early Chandela style.

One of the older and simpler temples of Khajuraho's Eastern Group, the Brahma Temple sits on the banks of Khajur Sagar lake in a setting that softens its plain stonework. Despite its name, the temple is dedicated to Vishnu, likely nicknamed after a four-faced linga found inside. Built in the 10th century, it shares the unadorned style of the early Chandela period rather than the elaborate carvings of the later Western Group. A peaceful lakeside stop on the eastern village walk.
