Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi

The samadhi of Adi Shankaracharya, the 8th-century philosopher who revived the Kedarnath Temple, located directly behind the main shrine.

The Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi is located just behind the Kedarnath Temple and marks the spot where the great 8th-century philosopher and reformer Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have attained samadhi. Shankaracharya is credited with reviving and restoring several ancient temples across India, including Kedarnath. A 12-foot statue of Shankaracharya was installed here in recent years and is a significant attraction for pilgrims who understand the role he played in preserving the Shaivite tradition. The site was damaged in the devastating 2013 floods but has since been restored.
