The Central Range at Kohora is the busiest safari range of Kaziranga National Park and the starting point for most visitors. Tracks lead through tall elephant grass, wetlands and woodland where greater one horned rhinos, wild water buffalo, elephants, swamp deer and many water birds are seen, and tigers are present.
Kohora is on NH 715, where most of Kaziranga's resorts and the jeep safari counters are. For the 2026 to 2027 season it reopened on 3 October 2026 with the Western Range. Elephant safaris resume from 1 November. Jeep safari gate entry is 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Permits are issued by the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division at Bokakhat and through the Assam Sewa Setu portal.
