Vaishno Devi Temple

Located in the Trikuta mountains, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi an incarnation of Durga.

Vaishno Devi Temple in the Trikuta mountains of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in India, drawing around eight million devotees annually. The temple is dedicated to Mata Vaishno Devi, a manifestation of the divine feminine energy combining the powers of Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Kali. The main shrine is housed inside a natural cave at an altitude of 5,200 feet and contains three natural rock formations (pindies) representing the three forms of the goddess. The pilgrimage begins at the base camp of Katra and involves a trek of approximately 14 km one way through mountain terrain, though helicopter services are available for part of the route. The entire pilgrimage complex is managed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, which has developed extensive infrastructure including tracks, rest houses, and facilities for pilgrims. The journey is undertaken year-round with the heaviest footfall during Navratri in spring and autumn. The cave shrine experience, with its natural rock formations and the sound of underground springs, creates a deeply immersive spiritual encounter.
