Perched about 150 feet above sea level near the confluence of the Chandragiri River and the Arabian Sea, Chandragiri Fort was built in the 17th century by Sivappa Nayak as part of a chain of coastal forts. Much of the structure now lies in ruins, but the squarish layout and old bastions still stand among garden greenery. A boat club nearby runs short river cruises past palm fringed islands, making this a quieter counterpart to the more famous Bekal Fort.
