The Baroo Khanqah is a medieval Muslim shrine built during the era of Hazrat Syed Muhammad Nur Bakshi and later associated with Hazrat Shams ud Din Iraqi, whose teachings shaped Islam's spread across the Kargil region. Located in the upper Baroo area, the Khanqah remains an active site of devotion and reflects the layered religious history of Purig, where Sufi, Shia and Buddhist traditions have coexisted for centuries. Its weathered wooden architecture and quiet courtyard offer visitors a glimpse into Kargil's spiritual heritage, distinct from the town's more visited war history and bazaars.
