Vivekananda Rock Memorial stands on a small rocky island about 500 metres offshore in the sea at Kanyakumari, built to commemorate Swami Vivekananda's legendary meditation here in 1892, after which he formulated his vision for the spiritual regeneration of India. Constructed between 1964 and 1970, the memorial features the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam, built in the architectural styles of different Indian temple traditions. Accessible by ferry from Kanyakumari, it is one of the most visited spiritual monuments in the country.
