Vattakottai Fort, also known as the Circular Fort, is a 17th-century sea fort built by the Travancore kings and later expanded by the British to guard the strategic coastline at the confluence of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. Situated about 6 km from Kanyakumari town, the fort sits directly on a rocky promontory surrounded by water on three sides and offers dramatic views of the open sea. The fort's stone bastions, cannon mounts, and a small temple within its walls make it a rewarding heritage and nature stop.
