Our Lady of Ransom Church

Our Lady of Ransom Church in Kanyakumari is a landmark Gothic-style Catholic church built in 1900, tracing its roots to a grotto discovered by St. Francis Xavier in 1542. Dedicated to Mother Mary, locally revered as Alangara Upakara Matha, the church stands 153 feet tall and is one of the most visited religious sites in Tamil Nadu. Inside, a 16th-century statue of Mary dressed in a sari is enshrined on a golden altar. Every December, a ten-day feast draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims.
