Around twenty five kilometres from Kangra town, the Masroor Rock Cut Temples form a rare monolithic complex carved from a single sandstone outcrop in the eighth century. Dedicated chiefly to Shiva alongside Vishnu and other deities, the site is popularly nicknamed the Himalayan Pyramids for its stepped, layered form. Many of the fifteen shrines remain unfinished, but the main sanctuary and its mountain backdrop make this one of Himachal's most striking heritage sites.
