Narsingh Temple serves as the winter home of Lord Badrinath, receiving the deity's idol each year when snow closes the Badrinath shrine. Adi Shankaracharya is credited with installing the temple's image of Narsingh, Vishnu's half man half lion form. A local legend holds that a crack slowly widening on the idol's wrist will one day seal the path to Badrinath forever, adding an air of mystery to the shrine.
