Jorhat Gymkhana Club

A British era sports club in Jorhat, built in 1876 and still hosting the annual Governor''s Cup.

Jorhat Gymkhana Club was built in 1876 by D. Simons and remains one of Jorhat's most enduring British era institutions. Historically a hub for horse racing, lawn tennis, billiards and polo, the club continues to host the Governor's Cup, a horse racing event with over 140 years of history behind it. Its colonial architecture and old world atmosphere offer a glimpse into the recreational life of tea planters and colonial officials in Upper Assam.
