Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park was established in 2006 on the rocky terrain surrounding the base of Mehrangarh Fort. The park was created to restore the natural ecology of a large wasteland that had been overtaken by invasive plant species. Today it is home to over 200 species of indigenous Thar Desert plants, including rare succulents, grasses, and trees. Trails wind through the rocky ravines offering views of the fort walls above and the blue city below. The park is a rare opportunity to experience the natural landscape of the Thar in an urban setting and is especially pleasant in the cooler months.
