Kaylana Lake is an artificial reservoir built in 1872 on the western outskirts of Jodhpur. The lake spreads across 84 sq km and is surrounded by low rocky hills, making it a picturesque spot especially at sunrise and sunset. It is a significant bird habitat and attracts migratory species in winter including pelicans, flamingoes, and various waders. Boating is available for visitors. The adjacent Machia Biological Park houses desert wildlife including monitor lizards, deer, and desert foxes. The lake is a popular picnic destination for locals and a quieter alternative to the busy heritage sites in the city.
