Jhansi Fort

The 1613 Bundela fort in Jhansi that became the heroic stronghold of Rani Lakshmibai during the 1857 Revolt, with panoramic views and a historic museum.

Jhansi Fort, built on a rocky hillock in 1613 by the Bundela king Bir Singh Deo Judev, is the most important historical monument in Jhansi and a symbol of the city's proud martial heritage. The fort gained enduring fame as the stronghold of Rani Lakshmibai during the 1857 Revolt against British rule. The Rani defended the fort heroically before escaping with her son strapped to her back on horseback — a moment immortalised in Indian history and poetry. The fort features massive walls, ten gates, a large courtyard, cannons, temples, and a museum. The panoramic views from the ramparts and the historical resonance make it an unmissable destination in Bundelkhand.
