Barua Sagar Tal is a large historic reservoir near Jhansi, created by damming the Betwa River tributary in the 18th century under the Maratha rule. The lake spans several kilometres and is surrounded by gentle hills, ruins of ghats, and the historic Barua Sagar Fort on one shore. The lake is used for irrigation and is home to a variety of waterbirds. The peaceful waterside setting, historic ghats, and fort ruins make Barua Sagar Tal one of the hidden scenic gems of Bundelkhand, especially beautiful at sunset.
