Raghunath Temple

A major temple dedicated to Lord Rama, known for its vast collection of ancient scriptures.

Raghunath Temple in Jammu is the largest temple complex in North India and one of the most significant centres of Vaishnava worship in the Jammu region. Built by Maharaja Gulab Singh of Jammu between 1835 and 1860, and completed by his son Maharaja Ranbir Singh, the complex contains seven shrines dedicated to Lord Rama and various forms of Vishnu. The main shrine houses an image of Lord Rama flanked by Sita and Lakshmana. The temple is particularly renowned for its vast collection of ancient scriptures, manuscripts, and religious texts, as well as its galleries displaying thousands of shaligrama shilas and other sacred stones. The interior walls of the shrines are decorated with gold foil, and the complex reflects the devotional patronage of the Dogra rulers of Jammu. The temple was the target of a militant attack in 2002 but has since been restored and continues to draw pilgrims from across the Jammu region.
