Lodurva Jain Temple

Lodurva was the capital of the Bhati Rajputs before Rawal Jaisal founded Jaisalmer in 1156. Little is left of the old town except its Jain temples, which were damaged in raids and rebuilt in later centuries. The main temple is dedicated to Parshvanath, the 23rd Tirthankara, and has a black idol under a canopy of serpent hoods, a carved torana at the entrance and fine yellow sandstone lattice work. A second shrine is dedicated to Sambhavanath. Local belief holds that a snake that appears in the temple brings good luck. It is usually visited on the way to or from the Sam dunes.
