Khuri is a desert village about 40 to 50 km south-west of Jaisalmer, with rolling sand dunes just outside it. It is less crowded than Sam and has a more rural feel, with village houses built of mud and thatch and decorated with painted walls. Most visitors come in the late afternoon for a camel ride to the dunes at sunset, then stay the night in one of the many tent camps, which usually include dinner and a Rajasthani folk music and dance programme. Prices for camel rides and camps vary a lot by season, so agree the rate before you start.
- How to Reach: About 1 to 1.5 hours by road from Jaisalmer. Hire a taxi or jeep, or arrange pickup through your desert camp. Local buses are infrequent.
