Jaisalmer Fort

Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort, was built in 1156 AD by Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal on the Trikuta Hill. Unlike most forts in India, this one is still inhabited, with thousands of people living within its walls alongside temples, havelis, shops, and guesthouses. The massive honey-gold ramparts glow amber at sunset, giving the fort its famous golden quality. Inside, the Raj Mahal, seven Jain temples, the Lakshminath Temple, and several ornately carved havelis are all worth exploring. It is one of the largest forts in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
