Bada Bagh

A garden of royal cenotaphs on the outskirts of Jaisalmer, best visited at golden hour for stunning photography.

Bada Bagh, meaning Big Garden, is a complex of royal cenotaphs built for the Maharawals and their families on the outskirts of Jaisalmer. The cenotaphs are made of yellow sandstone with carved chhatris and detailed equestrian statues of the rulers on each one. The complex sits on a slight rise surrounded by the desert, with wind turbines visible on the horizon. The golden hour light here is exceptional as the sandstone structures turn deep amber against the desert sky. It is one of Jaisalmer's most photogenic spots and a favourite with photographers.
