Rani Durgavati Museum

Museum showcasing ancient sculptures, coins, and tribal artifacts from the Kalachuri period.

Established in 1976, the Rani Durgavati Museum honors the brave Gond queen who fought against Mughal invaders. Housed in a striking double-storied building, it contains over 6,000 antiquities including sculptures spanning the 3rd to 18th centuries, ancient coins dating from 2 BC to 1600 AD, inscriptions, and tribal artifacts. The museum's galleries are divided by religious tradition: Shaiva, Vaishnava, and Jaina. A notable entrance sculpture depicts Queen Durgavati on horseback. Visitors discover fine Kalachuri period sculptures and historical letters from Mahatma Gandhi, offering deep insights into the region's cultural heritage.
