Shaheed Minar

An eleven metre memorial in Bir Tikendrajit Park honouring Meitei and tribal martyrs of the 1891 revolt.

Shaheed Minar rises eleven metres at the northern end of Bir Tikendrajit Park, built in memory of Yubaraj Bir Tikendrajit and General Thangal, both publicly hanged by the British in 1891 following the Anglo Manipur War. Three vertical beams fuse together near the top beneath a trio of mythological dragons. The memorial draws students and history minded visitors and sits within easy walking distance of the city centre, making it simple to combine with a Kangla Fort visit.
