Sapt Rishi Ashram and Ghat

The sacred spot where seven ancient sages are said to have meditated, where the Ganga splits into seven streams around their hermitage.

Sapt Rishi Ashram marks the place where seven great sages, namely Kashyapa, Vashistha, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jamadagni, Bharadwaja, and Gautam, are believed to have meditated in ancient times. Legend holds that the Ganga split herself into seven streams, known as Sapt Dhara, so as not to disturb the meditating rishis. The ashram sits on the banks of the river about 5 km from the main Haridwar ghats and offers a much quieter, contemplative atmosphere compared to the busy Har ki Pauri area. The ghat here is peaceful and the spot is popular with those seeking solitude along the Ganga.
