Daksha Mahadev Temple is located in Kankhal, a sacred town adjacent to Haridwar, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It marks the site where King Daksha, father of Sati, performed a grand yagna to which he deliberately did not invite his son-in-law Shiva. Sati, unable to bear the insult to her husband, immolated herself in the sacrificial fire. The enraged Shiva later destroyed the yagna and Daksha himself, before being appeased. The temple contains a Yagna Kund and Daksha Ghat associated with this legend. It attracts enormous crowds on Mahashivratri. Kankhal itself is one of the Panch Tirth of Haridwar.
