Bharat Mata Mandir

An eight-storey temple dedicated to Mother India rather than a deity, with each floor celebrating a different aspect of Indian culture and history.

Bharat Mata Mandir is a unique eight-storey temple in Haridwar that contains no deity but is instead dedicated to Mother India and the ideals of the Indian nation. Inaugurated in 1983 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, each floor of the temple is themed differently, covering aspects such as freedom fighters, great women of India, ancient sages and saints, Hindu traditions, and the geography of the subcontinent. The top floor offers a view of the surrounding area. The temple was conceived by Swami Satyamitranand Giri and is a rare example of a temple that celebrates national identity through a spiritual lens.
