Matanga Hill

Matanga Hill is the highest point in Hampi and offers the most spectacular panoramic views of the entire Hampi landscape, including the ruins, temples, and the Tungabhadra River. The hill is associated with Hindu mythology, where it is believed that Sage Matanga performed penance. The trek to the top takes about 30-45 minutes and is moderately challenging, but the breathtaking views make it worthwhile. The hill is particularly popular for sunrise and sunset views, when the entire landscape is bathed in golden light. From the summit, visitors can see the Virupaksha Temple, Vittala Temple, and other major monuments spread across the Hampi ruins. The hill also features some ancient structures and a small temple at the top.
