About Lakshmi Narasimha Temple

Lakshmi Narasimha Temple houses the largest monolithic statue in Hampi, depicting Lord Narasimha (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu) in a seated position. The statue, carved from a single piece of stone, stands 6.7 meters tall and is a remarkable example of Vijayanagara sculpture. The temple was built in 1528 during the reign of King Krishnadevaraya. The statue shows Lord Narasimha sitting on the coils of the serpent Adishesha, with the goddess Lakshmi on his lap. However, the statue of Lakshmi was damaged during the destruction of Hampi, and only fragments remain. The temple structure itself is also partially ruined, but the main statue remains largely intact. The temple is a significant historical and religious site, showcasing the exceptional sculptural skills of the Vijayanagara artisans. The massive scale and intricate details of the statue make it one of the most impressive monuments in Hampi.
