Hoysaleswara Temple is Halebidu's great twin Shiva shrine, built in the 12th century for Hoysaleswara and Shantaleswara lingas. Outer walls carry dense friezes of epics, dancers, and deities that many visitors rate as the peak of Hoysala carving. Two large Nandi pavilions face the sanctums across the platform. Plan at least 90 minutes, hire a guide if you want the stories decoded, and visit early before tour buses peak.
