Mammiyoor Mahadeva Temple

Ancient Shiva temple 200 metres from Guruvayur Temple considered essential for completing the pilgrimage.

Mammiyoor Mahadeva Temple stands just 200 metres northwest of the Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple and is considered an inseparable part of the pilgrimage here. Legend holds that Lord Shiva relocated to this site, then called Mahimayur, to make way for Lord Krishna's idol at Guruvayur, earning the place its name. The presiding deity appears as Uma Maheshwara with Parvati, and the temple also houses a shrine to Lord Vishnu. One of Kerala's 108 Parasurama Shiva Kshetrams, the temple is celebrated for its intricate mural paintings depicting episodes from Hindu mythology.
