Sheetla Mata Mandir on Sheetla Mata Road in old Gurugram is one of the most visited temples in Haryana. Tradition holds that the goddess worshipped here is Kripi, wife of Guru Dronacharya, the teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas after whom Gurugram is named. Devotees pray to Mata Sheetla for protection from illness, and families from across north India bring young children here for their first haircut, the mundan ceremony. The biggest crowds come during the Chaitra mela, which runs for about a month around Chaitra Navratri in March and April. Entry is free.
