Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple

Gokarna Mahabaleshwar Temple is one of the most sacred Shiva temples on the west coast of India, often compared to Varanasi in spiritual importance. The main shrine houses the Atmalinga, a powerful Shiva lingam said to have been brought by Ravana from Kailash. According to legend, Lord Ganesha tricked Ravana into placing the lingam on the ground at Gokarna, where it became permanently fixed.
