Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib is a Sikh place of worship and pilgrimage beside the glacial Hemkund lake, ringed by seven peaks, at well above 4,000 m. It is devoted to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, who according to the Dasam Granth meditated here in an earlier life. A Lakshman temple stands on the same lake shore. There is no overnight stay at the top, so pilgrims climb from Ghangaria in the morning and come back the same day. The gurdwara is snowbound in winter and opens for the annual yatra in late May.
