Enchey Monastery

Old Buddhist monastery with rituals.

The Enchey Monastery, meaning "the solitary temple," is a 200-year-old architectural marvel perched on a ridge overlooking Gangtok with a stunning view of Mount Kanchenjunga. Belonging to the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism, it is believed to be blessed by the tantric master Lama Drupthob Karpo, who once flew to this site. The monastery is famous for its vibrant murals, sacred images of deities, and the annual "Cham" masked dances held during the lunar month. Surrounded by lush greenery and tall pine trees, this peaceful sanctuary offers a spiritual escape and a glimpse into the deep-rooted religious traditions of the Sikkim Himalayas.
